Drone Adventure Kvænangen: Alteidet, Sopnes, and Jøkelfjord

On July 16, 2020, I embarked on an unforgettable drone photography trip across Kvænangen municipality with my Mavic Air 2. The weather was nothing short of perfect, with clear skies and almost no clouds—ideal conditions for capturing the breathtaking landscapes of Northern Norway. My journey took me through Alteidet, Sopnes, and Jøkelfjord, each offering stunning views and unique scenery.

Drone Adventure in Alteidet

Alteidet was the first stop on my journey. Surrounded by picturesque mountains and vast open landscapes, this small village provided an excellent opportunity to test different aerial perspectives. The lush greenery contrasted beautifully with the deep blues of the nearby waters, creating a striking visual contrast. The village is known for its quiet atmosphere and proximity to scenic hiking trails that offer spectacular views of the fjords.

Drone Adventure in Sopnes and Sopnes Chapel

Next, I visited Sopnes, a serene coastal area that boasts incredible fjord views. One of the key attractions here is Sopnes Chapel, a small yet historically significant church built in 1967. This white wooden chapel serves as a vital place of worship for the local community and blends harmoniously into the surrounding rugged landscape. Capturing the chapel from above gave a fresh perspective on its architectural simplicity and the peaceful atmosphere of the region. The still waters reflected the sky, making the aerial shots even more mesmerizing.

Drone Adventure in Jøkelfjord and the Glacier

My final destination was Jøkelfjord, famous for its stunning glacier. Though I was several kilometers away, the sheer presence of the glacier was awe-inspiring. This glacier, part of the larger Øksfjordjøkelen ice cap, is one of the few in Norway that reaches directly into a fjord. While my drone footage couldn’t capture the vivid blue ice up close, it still managed to showcase the dramatic fjord landscape and the powerful nature that defines this region.

Conclusion

This drone adventure in Kvænangen was an incredible experience. The combination of untouched landscapes, cultural landmarks, and dramatic natural beauty made for an unforgettable trip. Each location—Alteidet, Sopnes, and Jøkelfjord—offered something unique, and my Mavic Air 2 performed flawlessly in capturing these breathtaking sights.
